Lung Inflation Bulb
|

This device provides a very Safe and Reliable method for verification of tube placement in mice and small rodents. Other methods of tube placement verification require observation of mirror fogging or pronounced abdominal breathing.
Being able to visualize mirror fogging is not reliable because the exhaled air of these animals does not consistently result in the
mirror fogging that is apparent in larger animals. Verification by pronounced abdominal breathing requires the opening of the trachea tube to be sealed. The animal should exhibit pronounced abdominal breathing with no visible distention of the chest if the tube is placed properly.
These methods deprive the animal of oxygen for a period of time causing distress, are highly unreliable, and they consume precious time
when the animal could be on the anesthesia machine.
The Lung Inflation Bulb is constructed from two pieces that are bonded together with a special epoxy.
The distal end is fitted with a male luer that will mate with the female luer connector on the tracea tube. The Proximal end is a flexible bulb that when squeezed
results in obvious distention of the chest followed by an immediate return to normal when released when the tube is placed properly. Thus the animal
is not deprived of oxygen for any period of time and verification is aboslute and immediate. These devices
are designed to be Semi-Disposable meaning they are not designed for rigorous cleaning or sterilization but are capable of Multiple Uses depending on your specific needs.
